Three ways to send Rails logs to Mackerel with trace correlation

You can now send Rails logs to Mackerel with trace correlation by outputting single-line JSON to an OpenTelemetry collector.

Changes

  • Embed trace_id and span_id into single-line JSON logs from Rails to link them with traces.
  • Read log files with the file_log receiver and parse JSON using json_parser.
  • Forward standard output logs through Fluentd and handle JSON parsing and severity mapping with a transform processor.
  • Poll logs from CloudWatch Logs using the awscloudwatch receiver.
  • Send logs to Mackerel by specifying the mackerel_otlp exporter in the OpenTelemetry collector.
